Shane L. Bishop
Rev. Shane Bishop has been the Senior Pastor at Christ Church in Fairview Heights, Illinois since 1997. In 2010 Shane was named a Distinguished Evangelist of the United Methodist Church by the Foundation for Evangelism. With his strengths of vision casting, preaching and leadership, weekend worship attendance has increased from approximately 200 in 1996 to 2,200. The Illinois Great River Annual Conference has recognized Christ Church ten times with Awards for Church Growth and Evangelism.
A former history teacher and coach, Shane holds both graduate and undergraduate degrees from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. An Elder in the Illinois Great Rivers Conference, Shane graduated cum laude in 1992 from Candler School of Theology at Emory University. There he received the Rollins Scholarship Award for his strong academic work and effectiveness in pastoral leadership at the St. James-Manchester Charge in Manchester, Georgia. From 1992-1997 he served the Sumner/Beulah Charge in Sumner, Illinois where he was presented the Denman Evangelism Award in 1994 before being appointed to Christ United Methodist Church in 1997.
Elected to represent the Illinois Great Rivers Conference (IGRC) at General Conference three times and Jurisdictional Conference four times, Shane served on the Jurisdictional Episcopacy Committee from 2004-2012. Shane has traveled extensively around the country and the world in both mission and speaking engagements. Christ Church has planted three regional campuses and two Biker Churches since 2011. Shane resides in Belleville, Illinois with his wife of 33 years, Melissa. The couple has two adult children and four grandchildren. He enjoys hiking the Smoky Mountains, playing competitive softball, American History and the St. Louis Cardinals.
