Upward Basketball & Cheerleading Has 204 children

This January, Christ Church began its fourth season of Upward Basketball and Cheerleading.  There are 204 children from kindergarten thru the 8th grade participating (173 basketball players and 32 cheerleaders).  The purpose of Upward Sports is to develop youth into total athletes mentally, athletically, spiritually, and socially.
Participants come from Christ Church and neighboring churches and communities with all practices and games being conducted in the Christ Church gym.  Each Upward team and squad have practice one time a week beginning the first week in January and going through mid-March.  Each team practices for 45 minutes, followed by a 15 minute devotional and scripture study led by their coach.  Games are played on Saturdays beginning on January 28 and going thru March 18.  Each player gets an equal amount of playing time, regardless of ability, and receive recognition after each game for demonstrating exemplary basketball skills, effort, and Christ like behavior.  Cheerleaders will conduct cheers each Saturday for the spectators.
To conduct a league of this magnitude requires many volunteers.  We are fortunate at Christ Church to have volunteer coaches, referees, scorekeepers, and concession sales.  Anyone interested in Christ Church Upward Basketball and Cheerleading can contact Rick Cavalier (rickcavalier@mychristchurch.com) or Lisa Camp (lisacamp@mychristchurch.com).
